Following
the highly successful Centenary Regatta held above
the Victoria Falls in October 2004, Oxford and
Cambridge rowing crews will be returning to the
Zambezi in September 2005 in an attempt to turn the
tables on the leading South African universities.
Last year Rhodes and
Rand Afrikaans, just weeks after their South African
Boat Races, narrowly defeated Oxford and Cambridge
Men and Women to record an historic win in the
Zambezi Centenary Regatta held at Livingstone to
celebrate 100 years of organised water sport on the
Zambezi.
This
year, the Livingstone 150th Anniversary Regatta will
be held on the weekend of 24th and 25th September as
part of the celebrations to mark the 150 years since
Dr Livingstone first sighted the Victoria Falls. The
event promises to be very exciting with Oxford and
Cambridge crews determined to reverse last year’s
results.
The regatta is being
organised by Primary Sponsorship Ltd, a leading UK
sports marketing company, and the River Club, an
exclusive lodge on the Zambezi. Please
