Dubai International Airport - Runway renovations

Dubai International Airport will be undergoing major renovations of its two runways from May 1 through to July 20.  During this 80 day period there will be a reduction in flights in and out of Dubai by about 25percent.  The southern runway will be closed from May 1 to May 31, 2014 while the northern runway will be out of operation from May 31 to July 20 2014. A number of airlines will be operating out of Al Maktoum International Airport located at Dubai World Central during this 80-day runway refurbishment project, including the following airlines:  FlyDubai, PAL Express, Jet Airways, Royal Brunei Airlines, Yemenia Airlines, Equatorial Congo Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and Ural Airlines.  U.S. Flag Carriers United Airlines and Delta, as well as Emirates Airlines, Safi Air and PIA will continue to operate out of Dubai. All direct flights between the United States and Dubai, irrelevant of carrier will remain at Dubai International Airport.

The ExecuJet terminal that supports charter/private/military jets will move to Dubai World Central. Dubai Airports, which manages the emirate???s two airports (Dubai International Airport and Dubai World Central) announced that it will start free shuttle services between Dubai International Airport and Dubai World Central on April 24, departing each airport every 30 minutes.  Passengers transiting between the two airports must pass through immigration and custom checks at both airports. This will require passengers travelling between the two airports to have an official/diplomatic UAE visa prior to arrival.  The UAE government will not grant an exemption from its visa requirement.  Dubai Airport authorities have confirmed this. The Dubai International Airport and Dubai World Central airports are roughly 65 kilometers apart ??? a journey that takes at least one hour ??? and with the additional construction traffic in and around Dubai, this timeframe is expected to increase.  Travelers are advised to confirm the status of their flights before departure and to allow additional time for transits if switching airports.
