Shiwa N’gandu
- the subject of the acclaimed book “The Africa House” and the
North’s most famous icon. The estate was the dream of Sir Stewart
Gore-Browne who, at the turn of the last century, built the tuscan-style,
country house in this remote corner of Africa. It has an incredible aura
that leaves one completely enchanted.
Mutinondo Wilderness – A stunning
eco-lodge located on a private 10,000 ha reserve in an area of exceptional
beauty. The lodge is built on the top of a large, rocky outcrop, each chalet
being constructed of natural materials obtained from the area and offering
superb views of the surrounding valleys and granite whaleback hills.
Forest
Inn - stone and thatch chalets nestled amongst
the indigenous miombo trees creating a peaceful bush
atmosphere and ideal stopover for self-drive guests.
Excellent birding of miombo species.

Bangwuelu
The Bangwuelu Wetland System is one of Africa’s most
important wetland resources. It is a bird-lovers paradise
with incredible numbers of waterfowl and the rare shoebill
stork; 100,000 endemic black lechwe occur in vast herds of
up to 10,000 mingling with the tsessebe.
North
Luangwa National Park
Is a wild and remote wilderness with no permanent tourist
facilities and only three safari operators. The main
activity is walking safaris, led by an experienced safari
guide and an armed game scout in some of the best lion
country around.
Kasanka
National Park
A little park famous for its enormous, migratory colony of
straw-collared fruitbats. Other specials include blue
monkey, the shy swamp-dwelling sitatunga, lichtenstein’s
hartebeest, and over 300 species of birds including the
pel’s fishing owl, african finfoot and ross’ loerie.
Scientific research is a high priority in the park.

Livingstone’s Memorial
The famous missionary explorer died at the
village of Chief Chitambo of the Lala people on the 1 May
1873, after trudging through the Bangwuelu swamps in his
search for the source of the Nile. His last journey began in
1866 and included his famous encounter with Stanley who
uttered the words, “Dr Livingstone, I presume”; and his
discovery of Lake Shiwa N’gandu where he lost his faithful
dog. The memorial marks the spot where his heart was buried
beneath an mpundu tree that is long dead. The drive to the
site passes through pretty, photogenic villages.
Zambian Rock Art
It is almost impossible to simplify the geometric
rock art into a description that does justice to this rich
legacy of Zambia. In the Kasama District of Northern Zambia
alone there are over 700 rock art sites. There is still much
to be discovered as this aspect of Zambia’s heritage is
little known and poorly studied.
Cultural Ceremonies/Trips
Cultural ceremonies in Zambia are not designed
for the tourism market being celebrations with real,
cultural significance for the local, tribal people. Should
you wish to attend a ceremony we would be happy to organize
this for you, however do be prepared to be flexible.

Livingstone Trip |
Normally available in
May lasting about 18 days and led by Sir Stewart
Gore-Browne’s grandson. Follow in Livingstone’s last
footsteps, visiting the ancestors of the chiefs. To
make it as close to David Livingstone’s experience,
guests locate the canoe for hire, negotiate a price
and organise porters. The sound of 40 porters
spontaneously bursting into song is quite something!

Northern Zambia is renowned for its waterfalls which are
scattered throughout the area. Probably the best known and
easiest to access is Kundalila Falls, famed for it’s wild
flowers and beauty. There are breathtaking views from the
top of the falls towards the distant Luangwa valley. The
Kaombe River drops 65m into a deep pool. There is a footpath
which winds its way to the bottom offering the best view for
photographing the falls and a delightful spot for a swim.
