Mauritius is an important destination for people searching for a beach holiday. The old terminal at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport was a little bit small, the floors not that high. All in all, over the years, the terminal didn't fit any longer to the high-level image of Mauritius as such.
Last week a new modern state-of-the-art passenger terminal has been officially opened. The airport infrastructure integrates an environmental and ecological dimension which is in line with the Maurice Ile Durable concept, with its architecture in glass and steel, the use of solar energy collected by photovoltaic cells, rainwater recovery and green space within the building. The new terminal comprises, amongst others, 52 check-in desks, five boarding gates of which one is A380 compatible, 26 immigration counters, five telescopic passenger boarding bridges, five baggage claim carrousels, a new aircraft parking area and a landside car park located in front of the building.
The easiest way to get to Mauritius from Zambia is from Ndola, Lusaka and Livingstone via Johannesburg on SAA or / and airlink.
