Namibia and Zambia Embrace Borderless Travel with National ID Cards

- In a landmark move toward enhancing regional cohesion and mobility, the Republics of Namibia and Zambia have jointly announced a progressive policy that will permit their citizens to traverse the shared border using only national identity cards, thereby eliminating the requirement for passports. This visionary initiative is designed to facilitate seamless cross-border travel, bolster bilateral economic cooperation, and accelerate Southern Africa’s trajectory toward deeper regional integration.

Once fully implemented, the Zambia-Namibia agreement will represent one of the region’s pioneering identity card-based travel corridors. It reflects a growing commitment among Southern African nations to simplify border procedures and foster a more interconnected and economically vibrant regional community.
