Proflight Zambia Launches First-Ever Jet Service to Kasama, Boosting Northern Circuit Tourism
- In a significant leap forward for Zambia’s domestic aviation sector, Proflight Zambia is set to introduce scheduled jet services on the Lusaka–Kasama route, deploying a 50-seat Bombardier CRJ-200. Launching in late September 2025, this development marks the first time a jet of this size will operate regular flights to Kasama Airport (KAA), situated in the heart of the Northern Province.
This bold expansion signals a major boost for regional connectivity, tourism, and business travel, positioning Kasama as a critical node in Zambia’s domestic network.
Initially, CRJ-200 jets will operate on Tuesdays, with Thursday flights to be added from November 2025. Sunday services will continue to use the smaller Jetstream 41 aircraft, offering a mix of capacity and frequency to suit traveler demand. The introduction of the CRJ-200 represents a significant upgrade in terms of passenger comfort, speed, and capacity, shortening the journey time between Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka and Kasama to just 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Capable of cruising at 860 km/h, the Bombardier CRJ-200 is known for its speed, efficiency, and reliability. Its deployment on this scenic route underscores Proflight Zambia’s commitment to enhancing passenger experience while unlocking the vast tourism and economic potential of Zambia’s Northern Circuit.
Kasama's emergence as a regional air hub comes at a pivotal time for the Northern Province, a region rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage. As the gateway to iconic destinations such as Kalambo Falls one of Africa’s tallest waterfalls and the sacred Chishimba Falls, Kasama offers easy access to a wealth of attractions. Visitors can explore hot springs, discover local traditions, tour vibrant villages, or connect onward to the legendary Lake Tanganyika.
The new jet service is expected to catalyze growth across the tourism value chain, benefiting hotels, lodges, tour operators, and community-based tourism initiatives. With improved air access, the Northern Province is poised to attract a broader spectrum of domestic and international travelers, further solidifying its status as a must-visit destination.
In addition to developments in the Northern Province, Proflight Zambia is also strengthening its presence in the Luapula Province. Starting in late September 2025, an additional Tuesday flight will be added to the Lusaka–Mansa route, with Thursday services commencing in November. This brings the route to a near daily frequency excluding Sunday’s by enhancing convenience for both business and leisure travelers, and supporting the fast growing Luapula region.
These strategic enhancements align with Proflight Zambia’s mission to bridge the country’s vast geography, support regional development, and foster economic growth. By improving access to remote and high-potential destinations, the airline continues to play a vital role in driving investment, job creation, and the expansion of local enterprises. Bringing Zambia’s regions closer together, one flight at a time.
