Why June Ranks Among the Finest Months to Experience Victoria Falls

- As the Southern African winter sets in, Victoria Falls enters one of its most rewarding seasons. Situated on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia, the destination offers an ideal combination of powerful water flow, improved visibility and comfortable weather during June.

Temperatures across the Zambezi region range between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius during the day, while mornings and evenings can drop to 10–12 degrees. Dry, sunny conditions and lower humidity create clearer skies and more comfortable outdoor experiences compared to the wetter months, when heavy mist often obscures the Falls.

Although water levels remain high in June, they are lower than the peak flood season from March to May. This allows visitors to enjoy panoramic gorge views while still witnessing the dramatic curtain of water that makes the Falls world-famous. Photography conditions improve significantly, with rainbows commonly visible during early mornings and late afternoons.

Walking trails on both sides of the Falls become more accessible, allowing visitors to enjoy viewpoints such as Knife Edge Bridge, Main Falls and Danger Point without constant spray. Scenic helicopter flights, known as the “Flight of Angels,” also offer exceptional views under clearer conditions.

Adventure activities including white-water rafting, ziplining, gorge swings and bungee jumping become more favourable in the cooler weather. Sunset cruises along the Zambezi River are particularly popular during this period, although Devil’s Pool generally remains closed due to high water levels.

June also marks the beginning of prime safari season. Wildlife viewing improves as vegetation thins and animals gather around water sources in destinations such as Hwange National Park, Chobe National Park and Zambezi National Park.

For tourism professionals, combining Victoria Falls with safari destinations such as Hwange, Chobe or the Okavango Delta creates one of Southern Africa’s strongest travel offerings. A three-night stay is generally recommended to fully experience the Falls, adventure activities and nearby wildlife experiences. As high season approaches, early bookings become increasingly important due to rising visitor demand.
