Zambia Strengthens Aviation Safety Through Digital Reporting

- The Zambia Civil Aviation Authority (ZCAA) has introduced a new Digital Safety Occurrence Reporting System, marking a significant step towards modernising aviation safety oversight in Zambia.

Launched on 10 August 2026, the platform enables airlines, ground handlers, maintenance organisations and airport operators to report safety-related occurrences electronically. By moving away from fragmented and paper-based processes, the system is expected to improve data collection, identify emerging risks more efficiently and support faster corrective action.

The initiative aligns with international aviation safety practices promoted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and strengthens Zambia’s commitment to data-driven safety management and regulatory oversight.

For the travel and tourism industry, enhanced aviation safety oversight can contribute to greater traveller confidence and more reliable air connectivity. This is particularly important for a country that relies on air transport to connect visitors and business travellers with destinations such as Victoria Falls, South Luangwa and the Lower Zambezi.

The development also supports Zambia’s position within the regional aviation sector, where stronger regulatory standards and cooperation are essential to expanding connectivity and supporting tourism growth across Southern Africa.

Overall, the digital reporting system represents an important move towards a safer, more responsive and technologically advanced aviation sector in Zambia.
